Summary

iPhone6 holder I made for my daughter. Latches very securely into the heater vent. Designed for RHD use. Two parts, one for mounting in the vent, and the other for the phone. Note that the phone holder is designed to accommodate the phone in a case as shown in the photo.

Post-Printing

Have experimented with acetone vapour finishing which looks really good on the phone holder. Will apply this to complete assembly once it's been proven over a few bumps.

How I Designed This

Autodesk Fusion 360. I got a model of an iPhone6 and a lightning connector from grabCAD, wrapped a model of a case round it and then applied Apple's case design guidelines. Subtracted the resulting model from a solid, and then cut to shape.

Vent clip involved some cardboard prototyping. The first printed version was attached to the car, and then the phone's compass app used in spirit level mode. This gave a correction which was then used to rotate the vent clip relative to the mount for the phone holder and then the support structures were recreated (lofts). Perfect on the second print.
