Summary

Phone stand will suit a Samsung Galaxy Alpha in s-view case or similar sized phones. Maximum size is width 70mm (2.75") x depth 13mm (0.5"). I've uploaded versions for speaker holes on the LHS or RHS.

The speaker sound is routed through a chamber at the back to reduce the treble and enhance the bass frequencies, resulting in a fuller sound.

Support can not be used due to the closed structure; You'd never be able to remove it.<br>Print this thick - I used 4 shells and 1mm floors and ceilings.  The heavier the better. </p></div>

How I Designed This

My first pass at this design was simply the stand diverting the speaker output to the grille at the front and sounded terrible. The high frequencies were enhanced and it sounded very sibilant and scratchy, but it got me thinking . . .

Pass 2 was to add the chamber at the rear, with the opening directly underneath the speaker hole, effectively 'sitting behind' the grille. This gave an improvement in sound but I thought I could do better.

For the third iteration the speaker output is directed backwards into the chamber with the port to the front grille at the far end, so the sound waves take the long way around. This was a great improvement and resulted in an apparent boosting of the middle and lower frequencies.

The final print was a tidying-up exercise and was printed with thicker walls and roof in a slightly more flexible PLA.

The difference between the stands was clearly audible in speech and music, and even more so when I played white noise or a 100 to 10KHz sweep tone through them. I used Digital Antics Test Tone Generator for this.

Obviously there's scope for a lot more experimentation here (size of chamber, addition of baffle material etc) but I'm satisfied with the sound that comes out so I'm presenting this as a finished item.
