Summary

A case for the Parallella Board with fan mount. This requires 12V power and some soldering experience.

Instructions

Please note that this case is specifically made for a 12V power supply, a 5V Voltage Regulator and a 50mm 12V fan (see the Parallella Quick Start Guide: "The board gets hot and needs a fan to operate reliably over extended periods."). This was designed in Solidworks and I printed it with PLA on my Makergear M2. As you can see, I've purposely blocked the 5V power jack on the Parallella to prevent plugging the 12V power supply into the 5V power jack.

WARNING: THIS TUTORIAL INVOLVES SOLDERING DIRECTLY TO YOUR PARALLELLA BOARD. FOLLOW AT YOUR OWN RISK.

For this build, I've used the following hardware:

A 5V 3A Voltage Regulator
A 2.5mm DC barrel jack connector
A 50mm fan
A 12V 3A DC Power Supply
4x 4mm M3 screws for mounting Parallella
4x 12mm M3 screws for mounting fan in lid
4x M3 hex nuts
2.54mm JST connectors
Some additional wire for connecting the DC power inside of the case
A soldering iron & solder
Double-sided tape for mounting voltage regulator

BEFORE YOU SOLDER, BE SURE TO CHECK VOLTAGE POLARITY OF YOUR WIRES TO AVOID FRYING YOUR ELECTRONICS

Solder the JST connector to the back of the 5V jack on the Parallella Board (see picture in gallery for details)
Solder the fan & voltage regulator to the external DC power Jack (which is center positive, use a multimeter to confirm the lead on the back side).
Use a multimeter to ensure that all of your solder joints were done correctly.
Mount the fan to the inside of the lid with the 12mm M3 screws & nuts. Mount the voltage regulator with double sided tape. Mount the barrel jack with the included nut.
Snap the case together and power up the electronics with the external 12V power supply.

You don't have to use the exact parts that I used in this build, but I chose parts that I've tested in other projects and are inexpensive.

Please leave feedback or let me know if you want any changes done. I might upload a second version without a fan that allows you to connect a 5V power supply directly to the Parallella, but I think it's best to have a fan running on this thing all the time to avoid burning it out.
