Summary

This is a fully laser-cuttable edge-lit acrylic pendant. The battery can slide in its compartment to turn the pendant on/off.

Designed in Inkscape and cut on a Glowforge laser cutter.

            <div><p>This requires some hardware.</p><ul><li>2x <a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.mcmaster.com/#95836A111">M2 8mm black-oxide stainless steel pan philips head screws</a></li><li>2x <a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.mcmaster.com/#90591A265">M2x1.6mm zinc-plated steel nut</a></li><li>1x 2x3x4mm rectangular LED</li><li>1x CR2025 battery</li></ul><p>For the LED, I found a slow cycle animated rainbow water clear LED on ebay. You'll likely need to buy this part in qty. 100+</p></div>                <p class="detail-title"><strong>Laser cut instructions</strong></p>            <div><p>This has three lasercut parts: the main body which should be cut from 3mm (1/8") cast clear acrylic and the two battery chamber parts, which should be cut from 1/16" black acrylic. See the associated SVG files.</p><p>For the cast clear acrylic, I used Glowforge's proofgrade medium clear acrylic material which is a cast acrylic that has paper on both sides. I removed the paper from the side being scored, but left the backing paper before cutting.</p><p>Cut settings (this is also the cut order):</p><p>Blue stroke: score (low-power cut, enough to mark the surface but not cut through)<br>Magenta stroke: cut first<br>Red stroke: cut second</p><p>The small notches that snap the battery into its two positions will likely need to be fine-tuned for your material and cutter. To do this, open Inkscape in the node editor mode and nudge them inwards/outwards.</p><p>Once all the parts are cut, polish the clear acrylic with isopropyl alcohol. Note: do NOT use extruded acrylic for this part; you will be very disappointed in the results and there will be crazing. You must use cast acrylic.</p></div>                <p class="detail-title"><strong>Assembly Directions</strong></p>            <div><p>Please see the hardware diagram for instructions on where to place the various parts.</p><ol><li>Cut all laser cut parts and remove all paper backings</li><li>Polish clear cast acrylic part with isopropyl alcohol to remove hazing</li><li>Bend LED leads according to diagram</li><li>Attach housing front (the part without the battery opening) to clear acrylic with screws, holding them together with your fingers</li><li>Insert LED and then battery</li><li>Attach housing back (the part with the battery opening) and put on nuts. Verify battery can slide before fully tightening nuts.</li></ol></div>
