Summary

A clamp and barb insertion tool for quick and hassle-free shortening of Shimano brake hoses. Keeps the hose in place and makes it easy to insert the tiny barb into the end of the cut hose. Probably works with any other hydraulic disc brake with ~5 mm hydraulic tubing. Works fine printed in PLA.

Instructions

            <div><h3>Materials needed</h3><ul><li>4x M4 x 25 mm hex screws</li><li>4x M4 nuts</li><li>1x M8 x 50 screw (40 mm works as well)</li><li>1x M8 nut</li><li>Brake hose barb and olive (usually supplied with the brake).</li></ul><h3>Usage</h3><ol><li>Insert M4 nuts (may need to be heated in place) and screws.</li><li>Insert the M8 nut and screw</li><li>Cut the brake hose to desired length using your favorite hose cutting tool. Optionally, just clamp the hose in this tool and cut it with a sharp knife (the M8 nut needs to be taken out for this, though). Make sure to follow proper procedures to avoid oil leaking out from the brake lever.</li><li>Thread the new olive onto the hose and insert the first millimeter of the barb into the cut end of the hose by hand.</li><li>Clamp the hose into this tool, barb facing the M8 screw.</li><li>Tighten the M8 screw to push the barb all the way into the hose.</li><li>Re-insert hose into lever and tighten the retainer nut.</li></ol></div>
