Summary

Almost anything can be done using e 3D printer. This is my name in plastic.

Please read the instruction how to do this!!

Instructions

Start with typing the text you want in MS Word, with the font "Snell Roundhand" or any other typeface that connects the characters. Make it huge i.e. 150pt or zoom into the document on screen. If you use a font with separated characters, you will obviously get separated printed characters from you 3D printer.

Make a screen shot from the text (on the Mac cmd+shift+4). Save as png.

Proceed as follows

Install Inkscape on your computer and make sure you have the plugin installed that translates to OpenSCAD.
load the png-file with the text
Transform the text to paths (Paths>Trace Bitmap), followed by Paths>Object to Paths
From the Extensions choose Generate from Path>Paths to Open SCAD (make sure your file path points to the right place)
Open the resulting OpenSCAD-file in OpenSCAD, render the file and save a resulting .STL.

This is a very brief instruction, and you will have to figure out some subtle tinkering and tweaking with the settings en the resulting code, especially the 3D hight of the text.
