Kitchen sink strainer

After my heavily-used kitchen sink strainer fell apart for the second time in five years (see third gallery picture) I decided to make a shower-type strainer that fits into the drain cup where the strainer basket normally sits. While this doesn't give me the option of letting water collect in the sink (a possible future option), it should be sturdy and able to handle boiling water, heavy pots getting plopped on it, etc.

There's a gap of about 5mm on the sides which I'll fix in the next revision. Note that the normal way to fix this is to remove the plumbing tail underneath, remove the cup assembly, and install a new cup assembly using plumber's putty. This was a bit easier.

I also find that strainer baskets don't really work that well for me - it's just as easy to collect rubbish from the bottom of the sink using a sponge, and having a flat sink bottom makes this easier.
