Laser Cut Nautilus Gears - Plywood
Remixed from the amazing MishaT https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:27233
Made by exporting as .png from tinkercad, and cleaning this up in inkscape (to thicken some areas, reduce the node count, and customize the brackets and pins.)
Laser Cut 4.55mm plywood for the gears, and 1.55mm tongue depressor for the brackets and pins.
While I have this both in 3d printed (abs, pla), and lasercut - I prefer the wood tactile feedback as I wait on hold and jockey my cubicle.
The durability has been battle tested by 22 pre-schoolers. This design has no reported initial failures.
Optionally wood glue dab the end of the pins to secure them in place.
Depending on the grain in the 1.55mm material; stress test your pins before installing them.
