Summary

This simple hinge can use any 8-32 bolt, or similar size rod, as its pintle. It's surprisingly tough, but is best used in light-duty applications like adding a pivot to a cardboard creation, or in lightweight carpentry work.

Instructions

Print as many hinge leaves as you'll need; use an 8-32 screw or another similar size rod (interior of hinge is a 5mm diameter hole) to affix the hinge leaves to each other.

Using a longer pintle, you can string together more hinge leaves into a hinge as long as you want! A 2 1/2" 8-32 bolt is the perfect size to make a three-leaf hinge (pictured), or a 1 1/2" 8-32 bolt makes a good two-leaf hinge.

Note that if you print the hinge standing up (as my STL is oriented) you'll have a small overhang problem, but I don't really mind since it's really only aesthetic and not structural.

Leaf dimensions are: 20mm tall, ~27mm wide, 5mm diameter hole along length, 4mm diameter hole on flat side. Our prints from a MakerBot (in lovely electric pink).
