Rock Solid Prusa X Axis Mounts / Z Wobble Free
Fed up of Z wobble? Tried "floating" X mounts and such? Try the brute force method!
I designed this from the ground up. Lots of attempts at this are derivatives and I felt it needed a fresh approach. I've been using these for about 3 months now, and they're rock solid!
I've completely eliminated Z wobble by:
- Making the couple between the smooth and threaded rods as solid as possible
- Moved to M4 threaded rods
- Created a nut adapter so this X mounting system can use M8 or M4 threaded rod
- Constrained only one end of the Z threaded rod
- Made a new Z couple for the M4 threaded rod
The idea is rather than trying to get the Z rods to float in various other attempts at wobble-free-ness, I constrain the whole X carriage to the Z smooth rods. I then ensure the Z threaded rods can move about as much as they need to by de-constraining one end, and using much thinner rod that can be flexed by the now solid X carriage.
-EDIT-
- Uploaded revised models
- Added a Nema17 motor standoff, only if you need it.
