Summary

This pendant is based on scanning-tunneling microscopy data of electrons in a graphene quantum dot.

The smaller, black print was done on a resin printer (model and settings unknown), and the larger gold print was done on Monoprice Delta Mini with CC3D Silk Gold PLA filament.

How I Designed This

Data massaging

            <div><p>I got the raw data from the physicists who created the quantum dot and did the scanning-tunneling microscopy, then wrote a Python program to parse the data and rescale it to integer values from 0 to 100.  The resulting scaled data is provided as Xmap.txt.</p><p>OpenSCAD's surface function was used to convert the data to a 3D surface, which I rotated, scaled, and cropped.  I added a ring to make it into a pendant—using a Reuleaux triangle rather than a round ring for better printing.</p><p>OpenSCAD's STL file is ridiculously large, so I shrunk it with <a rel="nofollow" href="https://myminifactory.github.io/Fast-Quadric-Mesh-Simplification/">https://myminifactory.github.io/Fast-Quadric-Mesh-Simplification/</a> to produce the STL files here.</p></div>
