It is placed INSIDE the door.<br>I put a piece of foam tape on the inside surface to hold it in place against the bottom of the battery.<br>It is not waterproof, but should help keep out dust. (One could put a thin o-ring about the circular part to make it more resistant.)<br>It does have to be removed and stored elsewhere (like a lens cap).</p></div>
