Summary

Voronoi mesh made from Wolf bust by @3dprintingrealms. I plan to print this at a size of 240mm top to bottom (which is 240% since the STL file is 100mm top to bottom). This just fits onto the bed of my printer at a 45° angle.

How I Designed This

I followed the instructions at this page to create the Voronoi mesh:

In summary:

Load the mesh into MeshLab.
Filters🡒Sampling🡒Poisson-disk Sampling -- I used a sample count of 3,000 here.
Filters🡒Colour Creation and Processing🡒Voronoi Vertex Colouring -- enable BackDistance
Select the original mesh
Filters🡒Selection🡒Select by Vertex Quality -- tick off Preview and then play with Min Quality until it looks right
Filters🡒Selection🡒Delete Selected Vertices
Filters🡒Smoothing, Fairing and Deformation🡒Laplacian Smooth -- I think I used something like 15 smoothing steps, play with it until it looks right for your mesh
Filters🡒Remeshing, Simplification and Reconstruction🡒Uniform Mesh Resampling -- tick off Clean Vertices, Multi-sample and Absolute Distance, lower the Precision cutoff for finer detail (more processing time), and you'll need to play with values for Offset, a number just over 50% (51%, 53%? too high and it'll fill the holes) is usually about right

There is one point of frustration, and that is of course that MeshLab has no Undo function, so if you want to try tweaking different values along the way, you just have to redo the entire thing from scratch. "Save As" often :-)
