Solar Furnace CNRS Odeillo

Print your own Odeillo solar furnace! 🌞🌞

This is a mockup of the largest solar furnace on Earth in Odeillo, South of France, capable of reaching 3500Β°C since 1969 πŸ”₯, and used for research on materials (eg space reentry shields πŸš€) and processing using and storing solar energy (electricity, e-fuels, hydrogen, industrial heat…).
See our research laboratory website (PROMES https://www.promes.cnrs.fr , part of CNRS which the largest French research organisation), or google for more info πŸ˜‰

The STL file is sized for the small white version on the picture, printed in PLA with an Ender 3 here.
Oversized in Cura, we also printed the black one (still PLA), and used aluminium tape to look like our mirrors: in fact it is even working and concentrate solar energy, starting to melt the tower at its focal point πŸ˜…

This small solar furnace was designed in Fusion by a colleague, Nicolas Boullet.
