Raptor 3 Engine 1/24 Scale Model

Summary:
This was a project I did for a modeling class. Originally it was designed to be done on a really nice sls powder printer, and because of that, some of the features may be impossible at the original scale. The original scale has it at about 5" tall, but for an FDM machine, I recommend printing each part at a minimum of 130% do to overhangs and small details. In the picture, the original and the scaled-up versions can be seen. Even the small version has some issues with things like the flange bolts.

NOTE: This is not an entirely accurate model. This model was based on 2 reference images and was done on a limited time constraint.

Assembly:
The two parts have a snap fit; however, in the scaled-up version, it may be a bit loose. A little glue can be put on the parts to solidify them together.

Versions:
There are two versions of the nozzle side, one with cutouts and one without. The cutouts are made for SLS printing or for air to be able to blow through it. The solid bottom one exists such that weights such as lead shot can be poured in and locked in place for a more weighty feel. This is more so recommended for the larger-scaled versions as the weight adds a nice characteristic to the hand.

Models:

  • Top section: Pretty straight forward it is the upper section
  • Bell nozzle: the lower section with no cutouts (best for adding some kind of weight)
  • Bell nozzle 2: the lower section with cutouts (best for showing airflow / air expansion, as well as for sls printing)
