Case-ception! Light Base Custom Feet

Let's face it, you bought the Light Base 600 or 900 to show off your pretty PC build, otherwise you woulda bought one of those standard no-frills towers that all look the same. I'm guilty of the same thing (my 900 FX is sitting pretty waiting for me to add components). And now you, like me, need a nice set of custom feet to make your build stand out. Look no further, you have found the ultimate solution!

Let me ask you something: What's the best, prettiest part of your build? If you said anything other than "the case" then you're kidding yourself (unless you said "my shiny RTX card" in which case, fair, but not everyone has pockets that reach the Titanic's resting place). So what's the logical solution here? Well, my friend, why not use that pretty build as it's own feet? In miniature, of course. That way you have not one, but 5 marvelous builds gracing your computer space. No need for anything fancy, your PC should be more than capable of supporting itself, and if not there's actually 4 of them supporting all at once for a whopping 4x the supporting power! Just think of all the lovely FPS that'll net you*.

There are 3 variations available:

  • FullDetail: All the details, with cutout for 1mm acrylic sheet or 3D printed windows
  • FDM: All the details, minus the water cooling tubes. Add afterwards using wire and glue.
  • NoDetail: A box that resembles the exterior of the Light Base case. Boring, but gets the job done. Add stickers for details, I guess.

What are you waiting for? Warm up that build plate, it's time to 3D print a PC! (4 of them, technically).

Printing Recommendations:

  • Full design includes a lot of small details, I recommend printing it using a resin printer if available. If not, set your printer to 30% infill or higher and the highest resolution available to you for best results. I also recommend printing with the side flat on the build plate rather than upright. Or, print the NoDetail variant and just imagine all the hard work it took for me to CAD all the tiny details inside (thanks darmestar for the GPU model).
  • Supports are necessary regardless of printing medium
  • Use high strength plastics (ABS, carbon-fiber reinforced, etc) or a quality resin

Finishing:

  • For the NoDetail variant, add stickers or paint to your liking, glue to a Baseplate, and done.
  • For the FullDetail / FDM variant:
    1. Paint the details if you like. FDM: use wire to add cooling loop pipes.
    2. (Optional) Add lighting. You will need a 4 units of a single Neopixel or similar addressable RGB light, cables, and a small drill to add a hole to the design for the cable to enter.
    3. At this point I recommend strength testing 1 of your prints with something heavy before trusting it with your PC.
    4. (Optional) If you don't trust your print, it didn't hold up to the strength test, or you just want to be sure, I recommend filling the interior part with clear 2-part resin.
    5. (Optional) glue the windows in place.
    6. (Optional) add foam pads for vibration damping/floor protection.
    7. Glue on your baseplate of choice.
    8. Add it to your build, and step back to admire your hard work!

Update 1: First test print successful, results for the FullDetail variant in Standard Resin (Gray) indicate that the part is strong enough to hold the weight of the PC without issue, the addition of resin, acrylic, or a printed window appears to be unnecessary in terms of structural integrity, and will instead be optional details for aesthetic purposes. Will continue testing with FDM to ensure compatibility/printability, may modify the file for easier printing with less support on filament printers.

Update 2: Full detail set printing and painting completed, adding foam pads to the base to protect the floor and reduce vibration from the PC is recommended. FDM test printing in progress.

Update 4: FDM test print complete. Results are alright, but definitely not anywhere near as good as resin. Structurally the foot is fine and will hold your PC no problem, visually.... it looks alright from a distance and paint would definitely help, but it won't be winning any awards. You need something on the level of an original Prusa MK3+ or newer in terms of print quality to get acceptable results, my old behemoth of a machine isn't really capable of pulling off this kind of detail. It does need supports to print, I recommend setting the XY separation to around 80% for optimal results.

  • Removed "Work in Progress" status as I will not be making further file modifications to this Thing.
  • Baseplate fitting may be a bit tight, these are designed with the required 30x40x3mm cutout, but I found it necessary to sand the baseplates slightly for a good fit.
