Speaker Wall Mount, 2 axis for heavy satellite speakers
This Speaker Wall mount is specially designed for heavy satellite speakers (wooden) weighing in between 2-4 Kg for a surround setup to direction the speakers at the sitting position for Dolby surround effect. There are many designs which can be found here in Thingiverse for light weight satellite speakers but none found for a heavy one. In market I have found some mounts but mostly floor standing ones or metal mounts which costs lot of bucks. Hence, after 3-4 designs and failures, I came up with this 3d design which should be included with some hardware i.e. tensioned (reinforced) with steel rods on both axis, but overall cost effective.
Parts to Print:
- Speaker Mount Hinge X 1 no.
- Wall Mount Hinge X 1 no.
- Vertical Grooved Rod X 1 no.
- Horizontal Grooved Rod X 1 no.
- Hinge Joint X 1 no.
- Hexagon Rod X 4 no.
Among the parts 'Hinge Joint' is one typical part which needs to be printed at 45 degree to properly print grooves on both axis. Plz check Pics for reference. The 'Hinge Joint' is the one which will tight the rotation from both the axis and keep the speaker stable. The screws should not be overtightened which would break the part. The grooves designed on both the axis works great to hold the position we need.
Hardware needed:
- M5 X 30 mm Socket Head cap Screws----- 02 nos
- M5 X 100 mm Threaded rods------02 nos
- M5 thread locking nuts----- 02 nos
- M5 Wingnuts------ 04 nos
- Flat Drywall screws 4x 20-30mm---- 05 nos
Step wise procedure for assembly (Will soon make a video and share here):
- Mark 2x holes on wall where you want to mount your speaker using the 'Speaker Mount Hinge' vertically and insert screws and keep it ready.
- Make 3x 3.2mm holes on the satellite speaker using the markings of 'Speaker Mount Hinge' horizontally.
- Screw the 'Speaker Mount Hinge' on the satellite speaker horizontally using Flat Drywall screws.
- Insert 2x M5 Screws and 2x M5 Locking nuts in 'Hinge Joint' and keep them loose.
- Take 'Hinge Joint' and insert 'Vertical Grooved Rod' and 'Horizontal Grooved Rod' in their slots and keep the Assembly1 ready.
- Place the 'Horizontal Grooved Rod' with the whole Assembly1 in the center of 'Speaker mount Hinge' and insert 2 x Hexagon rods from both sides.
- Similarly insert 2x Hexagon rods on 'Wall Mount Hinge' with the Assembly1.
- Insert M5 threaded rods horizontally and vertically in the holes of joints on 'Speaker Mount Hinge' and 'Wall Mount Hinge' and tighten them with 4x M5 wing nuts.
- Now the assembly is ready. Tighten the M5 screws on 'Hinge Joint' in desirable position and mount on the wall .
Please check the Pics for parts assembled to have some idea.
I have printed all the parts in PETG and worked well for me. You can try printing in ABS, ASA for better functionality of the model. I have printed with the flow ratio of 0.85 as I have designed the inserts with a gap of 0.2mm.The above whose assembly is for a single speaker and print vice verse for number of speaker u want to mount.
I have printed four sets for my 5.1 speaker layout and used laser pointer to perfectly angle all the speakers to center of the room. After all the arrangements I have recalculated room acoustics and the final setup sounded amazing. This made a great difference in the experience of Dolby affects.
Overall the procedure of printing, assembling, mounting, adjusting and finally experiencing the true surround sound is a hectic process but a worth upgrade to my sound system.
