Model Starship
This is a design file for parts to create Estes-compatible rocket styled similar to a SpaceX 'Starship'. The fins are proportionally bigger to enable gliding without the use of a parachute as opposed to an actual re-entry and final parachute deployment. The basic goal is to get the starship to separate from the launch stage and land more gracefully than a ballistic missile or brick. The OpenSCAD file has a lot of parameters and options that can be hopefully leveraged to get a configuration that achieves the goal.
This design is currently EXPERIMENTAL - have fun!
There are two parts, a Top and a Bottom. The bottom optionally has a top fin. There are options for the fins and relative angles. The top and bottom parts slide/snap together firmly, and are NOT intended to separate during flight. The bottom section is then connected via a tube to a booster/first stage section (provided by other OpenSCAD and STL files at the links below). The starship can also be positioned on top of any Estes BT-50 compatible tube.
The V2 files include the ability to add an attack angle on the canard fins on the top sections.
See https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7011356 for other parts needed to construct the lower stages of the rocket. These parts would be used for the rocket engines and parachute for lower stages.
See https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7011337 for rocket launcher parts.
The OpenSCAD file is provided. Note that while the starshipTop and starshipBottom modules in the OpenSCAD file are parameterized, not all options will be sensible or viable. Some parts (e.g. fins, nose shapes) defined in this OpenSCAD file are 'borrowed' from my other related OpenSCAD files.
