28x187mmr SPzB 41 cartridge

1:1 replica of a 28x187mmr Pzgr 41 and the SPzb 41 projectile. Used in the German 2.8 cm sPzB 41 anti-tank gun during WW2. The reason for the odd shape of the projectile was to utilize the squeeze bore barrel design, where the barrel internal diameter decreases as it approaches the muzzle. This results in a smaller diameter projectile traveling faster than traditional projectiles and barrels. However the Pzgr 41 round used tungsten which was very hard for Germany to source so the round was discontinued. In modern times shaped charges, missiles and sabot projectiles replaced squeeze bore guns.
