Düsseldorf Puzzle
Intent:
I created a small puzzle to engage the citizens of Düsseldorf by challenging them to see how well they know their city.
Usage:
There are 2 difficulty levels:
- the 10 piece puzzle to align the Districts (Bezirke)
- the 2.5mm holes can be used to add flags and assign the 50 boroughs (Stadtteile)
Maker tips:
To make the borders a different colour, I simply paused the print after the appropriate level using post processing in Cura and switched the filament before continuing.
I made the flags by cutting the ends off of standard toothpicks, printing the flags on paper, cutting them out and using gluestick to fasten them.
Printing on an Ender 3 V3 SE, all pieces took a little over 12 hours to print with 20% infill.
No Supports needed except for the Rhine pieces for the linking pieces.
When printing i found using an exclusive slicing tolerance in Cura helped the pieces fit together.
Disclaimers:
Following liberties were taken for the purpose of improving the puzzling experience:
- straightening a few select borders
- removing borders in the Rhine
- removing water in the harbour
- removing the land sticking out into the Rhine
Original design was missing the borough „Knittkuhl“ due to the use of a outdated map. As the pictures were taken before the error was caught, it is not featured in the pictures. It is however, present in the STL files.
The political map the puzzle is based on was accurate in August 2025.
