Hard Drive Magnet Fishing Disc
Hard Drive Magnet Fishing Disc
This is a two piece disc with pockets for two hard drive magnets from old 5 1/4" PC hard drives.
See video reference below for how to remove magnets from a hard drive. [This is not my video].

Start watching from @3:45 in the video. You can use a pair of channel locks or two needle nose pliers on either end if you don't have a vise to secure the magnet housing. Bend the metal and the magnet will separate.
You can use hot glue to secure the magnets in the pockets of the magnet disc. I found that you can just set them in the pockets and seal up the two halves of the disc with zip ties. See photos.
The center mounting point is a tunnel under the lid.
I didn't want a plastic U Bolt clip sticking out of the top as it would be vulnerable to bending and snapping and snagging under water. So I ran Boolean tunnel under the cap lid deep enough for an attach point. A Zip Tie works fine here, then tie it to a long line for dredging rivers or lakes for metal objects. Nylon tarred bank line.
Maybe you can improve the cap design and Remix.
I printed this in PLA+ and used 50% infill.
- Print with supports! Type: Tree(auto), Style: (Tree Slim).
1 hour and 15 minutes print time.
Use a small screw driver and a tiny pipe-cleaner wire brush to poke all the supports out of the screw holes and the tunnel part when the print finishes.
