Skyline Light Diffuser Pieces

These are the model files for a project I recently completed.

To complete this project you'll need:

  • A place to hang them with a light source behind it. I built a frame around mine as well.
  • 1/16" steel cable and eye screws to hang the pieces.
  • Magnets (10mm diameter)

Instructions:

  1. Use 1/16" steel cable to create however many rows you will make, use eye screws spaced 4" apart at the ends and secure it so it's not too loose.
  2. Print a bunch of cubes. I used basic translucent PLA using "Lightning" infill, tuning density to how I wanted it to look. I only had 1 perimeter using .5mm line width. I printed on a glass bed to try to get as much clarity I could out of the bottom layer.
  3. Glue magnets to each cube and each hanger piece.
  4. Clip hanger pieces on a row, hang cubes from hanger pieces.
  5. Once a row is perfectly spaced, drop a bit of glue (I used elmers) on where the hanger pieces and steel cable touch so it doesn't slide around and cause bunching.
  6. Repeat for as many rows you want to make.
