Heavy-Duty Articulating Filament Spool Holde

Summary
This project is a filament spool holder with a self-centering mechanism. The main goal is to replace standard plastic holders with a system with bearings and a steel axis for stable plastic feed. It was developed as a custom project to solve the problems of spool play and uneven tension.

Key Engineering Features:

Zero Friction Path: Integrated orifices for PTFE tube inserts (2mm ID / 4mm OD) to guide the filament without abrasion.

Heavy Duty Core: Built around a 160mm M10 threaded rod to handle 2kg+ spools with zero axis deflection.

Triple Bearing Architecture: Uses three 6000z bearings for maximum rotational stability.

Detailed Component Specifications (Bodies Breakdown)

  1. Main Housing / Frame (Body 26)

Material: PLA (for structural rigidity).

Settings: 5 Walls, 16 Bottom Layers (for a low center of gravity).

Infill: 30% Gyroid.

Role: The heavy-duty chassis that mounts to the printer and supports the entire assembly.

  1. Support Cylinder / Hub (Body 6)

Material: PETG (low friction).

Settings: 4 Walls, 4 Top/Bottom Layers.

Role: Acts as the primary rotating sleeve on the M10 spindle.

  1. Fixed Centering Cone (Body 7)

Material: PETG.

Design: Solid tapered design without a bearing slot.

Role: Provides a stable, self-centering base for the inner side of the spool.

  1. Adjustable Centering Cone (Body 22)

Material: PETG.

Design: Features a precision-engineered slot for a 6000z bearing.

Role: Centers the outer side of the spool and ensures smooth rotation.

  1. Ergonomic Adjustment Knob / "Barashyk" (Body 37)

Material: PETG.

Design: Includes an internal hexagonal slot for a press-fit M10 nut.

Role: Allows for tool-less tension adjustment and quick spool changes.

Hardware Required
1x M10 Threaded Rod (160 mm).

3x 6000z Bearings (10x26x8mm).

3x M10 Hex Nuts (1 for base, 1 for frame lock, 1 for the knob).

1x M10 Washer.

PTFE Tubing (Optional segments for guide holes).

Assembly Instructions
Frame Preparation: Insert PTFE tubing segments into the guide holes in Body 26.

Base Setup: Press-fit one 6000z bearing into the frame (Body 26). Insert the M10 rod and lock it with the washer and the first nut on the outside. Secure with the second nut on the inside.

Spindle Assembly: Slide the Support Cylinder (Body 6) and the Fixed Cone (Body 7) onto the rod.

Loading: Mount the spool. Slide the Adjustable Cone (Body 22) with its installed bearing into the spool hub.

Final Locking: Press-fit the third nut into the Adjustment Knob (Body 37). Screw it onto the rod to secure the assembly.
