Airwolf3d Spool shortened
The spool manager that was provided by airwolf3d for printing is AWESOME! Unfortunately none of my current spools have the larger hole they all use the smaller hole. Not a problem! A simple removal of the spool hub and some reengineering of the existing hardware and you are in business.
- Print the design here and assemble as instructed here http://airwolf3d.com/blog/2013/03/22/download-3d-printer-spool-minder/ except for the large 33mm bolt
- Remove all of the nuts, washers and bearing wheels on the provided spool rod that you got with your printer.
- Push the rod all the way through the hole leaving about 6.5 inches between the acrylic frame.
- attach a washer and nut to secure to the right side of the frame leg (if facing the front of the printer)
- thread the printed spool manager on the rod and then put a washer and bolt you removed originally and tighten it down.
- now put the large washer you removed originally on and one of the bearing wheels.
- thread another washen then bolt on and tighten.
- figure out the spacing needed for your spool (Mine is about 6 inches) and put another bolt then washer.
- put the other wheel bearing on and another washer then bolt.
- put your spool on and put the second large washer and the final bolt.
This should allow it to spin free and get all of the benefits of the spool minder.
HUGE thanks to Airwolf3d for an AMAZING printer and a really great spool minder. The original is available here http://airwolf3d.com/blog/2013/03/22/download-3d-printer-spool-minder/
